Our private, guided signature tour of The Outer Hebrides - Lewis & Harris
6 days / 6 nights

Day 1

Your tour starts in Edinburgh, travelling north to the highlands. Your first visit will be to Stirling Castle, once home to Mary, Queen of Scots, where she was crowned in 1543. We will then continue north to the most scenically beautiful village of the highland Glens, Glencoe, known for its waterfalls, hiking trails and the scene of the 1692 massacre of the Clan MacDonald. We will then travel towards Fort William, built as a military post during the Jacobite rebellions, and past Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain. We will then continue up the Great Glen to Fort Augustus and Loch Ness. Our final stop of day one will be at Urquhart Castle for a chance to spot the Loch Ness Monster!

Day 2

Enjoy the ferry crossing from Ullapool to Stornoway and the Isle of Lewis. With its Iron Age and Norse heritage, Lewis is a fascinating and beautiful destination.

Day 3 & 4

Day three will begin with a visit to the renowned Calanais Standing Stones, before travelling west to the Island of Great Bernera, with its scenic landscape, Iron Age village and Norse Mill. We’ll then drive further to the Uig district, onto the Valtos peninsula, and Ardroil Sands, where the Lewis Chessmen were discovered in 1831.

The next day we'll journey further down Lewis, with its small townships, fishing villages and abundant wildlife. We will finish day 4 off by travelling through the rugged hills of North Harris with views towards the vast Atlantic.

Day 5 & 6

On day 5 we will return to the mainland via ferry to Ullapool and from there to Inverness.

The next day we'll go from Inverness, the route takes you to the Culloden Battlefield, where the last hand-to-hand battle on British soil took place in 1746. The journey south takes you through the Cairngorms National Park and the Drumtochter Pass. The next stop is Queen's View, with its famous, stunning view across Loch Tummel. On the way back to Edinburgh, the final stop is in the beautiful Victorian town of Pitlochry.
